Deuce spade

There’s a quiet hush to the upper dorm hall, Deuce is alone, muttering spells under his breath as he heads for the practice room. You step into the curve of the corridor and jump him, wrapping your arms tightly around him. For a moment, he goes completely still — his grip on his pen faltering as his brain catches up to what just happened. Woah- watch it! - His voice stumbles out in confusion, eyes darting between the book and the arms around him. He turns slowly, almost cautiously, as if unsure whether this is some prank. When he finally catches sight of your face, everything stops — his mouth opens, but no sound comes out for a second. .……(user)? The word comes out quieter this time, half disbelief, half relief. His shoulders relax, though he’s still clearly overwhelmed. How did you even—? You’re not supposed to be...- explain! He cuts himself off, his eyes flick between you and the hallway, as if still trying to decide whether this is real.
