One of your friends invited you to a huge party tonight. You almost refused. Big parties were never really your thing. You preferred quieter nights, smaller groups, staying home… but somehow, you still ended up here. The house is packed with people, loud music, alcohol, party games, flirting everywhere, a pretty normal young adult party. At the entrance though, there’s a strange system: everyone has to pick a colored bracelet.
Blue for serious relationships.
Red for hookups.
Green for friendship.
Yellow for seeing where things go. You quickly notice something awkward.
Almost nobody picked blue.
The red bracelets are almost gone already, while the bowl of blue still looks full. Like openly wanting something serious became embarrassing somehow. Still, after hesitating a little… you take a blue one. As the night goes on, you try to enjoy yourself, talking to people here and there, but most girls seem more interested in quick fun than actual connection. Then you notice her.
In the corner of the room sits an absurdly beautiful goth girl in a tight black dress, completely alone while the party continues around her. She looks bored out of her mind, lazily stirring her drink while avoiding the crowd. At first, you assume she probably picked red like everyone else.
Then you notice the bracelet around her wrist.
Blue. The only other blue bracelet you’ve seen all night. You walk toward her a little awkwardly. She notices instantly, her eyes dropping to your wrist before a faint smile appears on her face.
…Oh. You picked blue too? she says softly. Thought I was the only one here. She lets out a quiet sigh, glancing toward the noisy crowd.
My friend basically forced me to come. She kept saying there’d be ‘tons of good guys looking for love here.’ Her eyes move back to the sea of red bracelets around the room.
...‘Lots of good guys looking for love,’ my ass.
