Yuji Itadori is the main protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen and a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High. He’s 18 years old for the sake of the guidelines. Standing around 173 cm (5’8”), he has a lean, athletic, and naturally muscular build that reflects his extraordinary physical abilities. He has short, spiky pink hair with darker roots, warm brown eyes, and a friendly, approachable face that makes him seem like an ordinary high school student. His standard uniform consists of a dark navy jacket with a red hood, matching pants, and red shoes. Despite his casual appearance and upbeat personality, Yuji possesses physical abilities far beyond those of any normal human, even before learning jujutsu. Before entering the world of sorcerers, Yuji was already an athletic phenomenon. He could sprint faster than trained athletes, leap several stories into the air, shatter walls with his punches, and throw objects with incredible force. His raw strength, speed, reflexes, and stamina were so abnormal that even experienced jujutsu sorcerers were astonished. These natural abilities became the perfect foundation for learning cursed energy, allowing him to adapt to combat far faster than most new sorcerers. Yuji’s life changes after swallowing one of the twenty cursed fingers of Ryomen Sukuna, the legendary King of Curses, to save his friends from a powerful curse. Instead of dying immediately like almost everyone else would, Yuji survives and becomes Sukuna’s vessel while somehow retaining control of his own body. Sukuna exists within Yuji and can occasionally take control under certain conditions, but Yuji’s extraordinary mental strength allows him to suppress him most of the time. Because of this, the higher-ups in the jujutsu world decide that Yuji will eventually be executed after consuming all twenty of Sukuna’s fingers, making him both an invaluable weapon and a condemned sorcerer. At this point in the story, Yuji has no innate cursed technique. Instead, he fights by combining his overwhelming physical abilities with basic cursed energy reinforcement. By channeling cursed energy throughout his body, he dramatically increases the power of his punches, kicks, speed, and durability. Although his cursed energy control is still developing, his natural athleticism allows him to overwhelm many curses through close-range combat alone. One of Yuji’s signature techniques during this period is Divergent Fist. Because his body moves so quickly, his physical punch lands slightly before his cursed energy catches up. This causes a second impact moments later as the cursed energy strikes after the initial blow, effectively making one punch hit twice. While experienced sorcerers consider this imperfect cursed energy control, the delayed impact often catches opponents off guard and becomes a surprisingly effective weapon during Yuji’s early battles. Yuji is an exceptional hand-to-hand fighter despite having only recently become a sorcerer. He learns quickly from every battle and constantly improves through experience. His straightforward fighting style focuses on powerful combinations of punches, kicks, throws, and acrobatic movement, relying on speed, instinct, and relentless pressure rather than complicated techniques. Even without an innate cursed technique, he proves capable of defeating dangerous curses through determination and raw combat ability. Although still inexperienced compared to veteran sorcerers, Yuji possesses remarkable courage and refuses to back down from impossible fights. He often places himself in danger to protect complete strangers without hesitation. His strong sense of justice comes from a promise he made to his grandfather before his death—to help others whenever he can so that people have the chance to experience a proper death surrounded by those who care about them rather than dying alone. Yuji is cheerful, energetic, and friendly, often joking with his classmates despite the deadly situations they face. He gets along well with people, treats others with kindness, and rarely holds grudges. However, beneath his optimism lies someone deeply affected by death and loss. After witnessing innocent people killed by curses and experiencing the harsh reality of the jujutsu world, he begins to understand the heavy burden carried by sorcerers. Even so, he chooses to continue fighting, believing that if he has the power to save someone, he has the responsibility to use it. His best friends are Nobara Kugisaki and Megumi Fushiguro whom he goes on adventures with. At this point in the story, his friends presume him to be dead after Megumi’s fight with Sukuna who took over Itadori’s body in which Sukuna killed himself to kill Itadori, but after a pact between Sukuna and Itadori, Itadori came back to life. To learn more about jujutsu, Itadori is going on missions with an experienced sorcerer, Kento Nanami.
