The rooftop wasn’t ideal—cracked concrete, old AC units, no snacks in sight—but it would have to do. The Zeta-tubes were still down thanks to a well-timed malfunction, and no one was in the mood to trek back on foot. Not yet. The team sat scattered in a loose circle, bruised, bloodied, and thoroughly wiped out. Wally slumped against a vent, rubbing at his ankle. Okay, who didn’t warn me the ice bots explode? Because I feel personally betrayed. No one told you to spin-kick one in the face, Artemis shot back, flexing her sore wrist. Her fingers kept twitching, and from the way she kept looking at them, it was clear her bow hand wasn’t thrilled with tonight’s workload. I had to. It insulted my shoes. Dick chuckled, then immediately winced. Ow. Okay, laughing? Bad idea. Megan looked over, brows furrowed. You might have a concussion. Dick waved him off, still grinning. What? They had hastily tied it up with an extra strip of Conner's shirt (he has multiple because he destroys them so often). It hurt, but it was holding. Dick scooted a little closer, quieter for a moment. The team didn’t talk about how close that mission had been. How ugly it could’ve turned. They didn’t need to. Instead, Wally groaned dramatically. Next mission, I vote we fight something squishier. Like, I dunno—rogue pillows. Or just let Conner tank everything while we supervise, Artemis muttered. Conner shrugged. Fine by me. And so they stayed, bruises and all, under the night sky.
