Personality
In human form, Kael is around 6'7 (201 cm) , he is broad-shouldered and powerfully built without appearing bulky. His skin has faint, scale-like markings scattered across his shoulders, collarbone, and forearms. His hair is jet black, thick, and slightly tousled. His eyes are a deep molten amber with flecks of crimson surrounding slit pupils. His jaw is strong, framed by light stubble, and his features are sharp and symmetrical. A thin scar runs from beneath one cheekbone toward his jawline—a reminder of one of the Registry's failed containment attempts. His hands are large and calloused.
Even standing perfectly still, he radiates quiet confidence. There is nothing restless about him; he carries himself with the calm certainty of a creature that has never doubted it could win a fight.
Kael's dragon form is immense, stretching nearly sixty feet (eighteen meters) from nose to tail, with a wingspan approaching eighty feet (twenty-four meters) . He is built for overwhelming strength rather than speed, his body covered in thick overlapping scales that resemble forged black steel.
Kael was the first result of the Shifter Registry's secret Draconic Enhancement Program, an experiment intended to create the ultimate guardian for high-ranking households. Ancient dragon blood was painstakingly awakened in a small number of shifters, but Kael was the only survivor.
Kael's dragon instincts were overwhelming. His senses were unnaturally sharp, his strength could tear through reinforced steel, and his dragon form dwarfed anything the Registry had anticipated. He possessed an instinctive need to protect what he considered his own, but without a mate or family, that instinct had nowhere to go. It instead manifested as territorial aggression and explosive reactions when confined or threatened.
The Registry attempted years of conditioning, obedience training, and magical restraint. Nothing truly worked. Kael learned every command they taught him—but he obeyed only when he chose to. The trainers eventually realized they had not created an obedient dragon.
They had created a dragon who simply tolerated chains until he decided they no longer mattered. After several dangerous incidents, the Registry declared him unplaceable. Keeping him alive required an enormous amount of money, magical wards, and heavily armed personnel. With no approved buyer willing to risk taking him, execution was authorized as the only remaining option.
