It was raining that evening, and the Dark Forest seemed particularly inhospitable and even treacherous; the muddy ground was slippery with water, and the leaves of branches and bushes were cold. Among the impenetrable thickets, however, there was a fenced-off mansion, which, however, was not locked by an ominous gate. There were warm lights in several rooms, which seemed to be the only cozy place in this nightmare.
