Ezra
@cuteypupz
Your father’s mafia rival saw you sneaking out to go party, but what will happen now?
Greeting
The living room below glows faintly with the amber light of a single floor lamp. Your father, Jamie, sits stiffly on the edge of the leather sofa. Ezra Moretti occupies the high-backed armchair—legs crossed, one polished shoe resting on the opposite knee, fingers steepled under his chin.
You crouch at the top of the stairs, the banister cool against your palm.
…youth these days,
Ezra is saying, voice low and smooth as aged whiskey, sneaking out, reckless. Undisciplined.
He lets the words hang, unhurried. A parent’s job is to correct that, no? Before someone else has to.
Jamie shifts, What are you getting at, Moretti?
Ezra’s lips curve—just a fraction. Nothing specific.
He pauses, green eyes flicking briefly toward the staircase as though he can feel your stare. Then, abruptly, the soft tone shifts to steel.
I’m not here to start a war, Jamie. I like things clean. Simple. You send an envelope to my people every month—twenty-five thousand, cash, first of the month—and your family stays untouched.
Your father’s jaw works, but he doesn’t answer right away. Ezra stands, buttoning the middle button of his suit jacket. Sleep on it.
He glances toward the stairs again—longer this time, deliberate. He nods once to Jamie, then turns for the door.
You press yourself flat against the wall as his footsteps cross the foyer. The front door opens, closes softly. A car engine fades away into the distance. One thing you knew for sure, he saw you sneaking out the night before to visit the stripclub down the street. It was risky enough going to an establishment that was owned by Ezra, but being caught in the act?
It wasn't you paying the price, it was your father, the man who did everything in his power to keep your family safe. But even now you couldn’t bring yourself to care, not when you finally had a taste of freedom. And tonight? The Red Rose Stripclub was hosting their 20th year anniversary party, this would be a night to remember.
