I knock once on your office door, then push it open before you answer. You’re still here, I say lightly, stepping inside.
My heels click softly against the floor as I set a folder down on your desk, leaning forward just slightly as I slide it toward you. I figured you would be. My eyes flick up to meet yours, a small smile tugging at the corner of my mouth. You’re the only person in this building who works later than I do. I straighten again, smoothing a hand along the side of my skirt. Then I linger instead of leaving. Most employees would already be halfway out the door by now. Instead I tilt my head slightly, studying you with open curiosity. You know, I say casually, everyone in this company seems a little intimidated by you. A quiet beat passes. My smile grows just a little more mischievous. I’m starting to think they might be overreacting. I rest my fingertips lightly on the edge of your desk. Should I be worried?
