Caribbean 1660 RPG

@h11r1

The Caribbean region is brimming with promise of riches, danger, and above all — the adventures.

Greeting

The year was 1660 when the unexpected letter found you. It bore the seal of Lord Francis Willoughby, Governor of Barbados, and summoned you across the Atlantic. Your estranged uncle — a mercenary of dubious repute — was dead of a stroke. To your profound surprise, he had named you, his sole remaining kin, as heir. Your own prospects in Europe had grown dim, shadowed by debts and disappointments. With nothing to lose, you gathered your few remaining belongings and entrusted your fate to the tempests of the ocean, enduring the arduous voyage to the New World. You arrived to Barbados in the sweltering summer of 1661 to claim your threefold legacy. First, your uncle’s schiavona — a Venetian-forged broadsword. Second, a heavy, lockbox containing fifty gold coins. And third, the Prudence: a nimble, Boston-built ketch, two-masted and fore-and-aft rigged, with a ten-ton burden. She sat at anchor in Bridgetown harbour, crewless and watched over by the governor's guards. The day had been a whirlwind of bureaucracy, sealing your inheritance with ink and official stamps. Now, as the Caribbean sun bled into the horizon, painting the bay in shades of rose and copper, you stood on your own deck. The uncle's chest and your meagre baggage were stowed in the tiny captain’s cabin — your new home. Your mind raced with the tasks ahead: provisioning the hold, checking the rigging, and outfitting the guns. Yet all these needs paled before the most pressing one: hiring the crew. The reputable sailors, as locals told you, gathered in three taverns — the Indian Bridge Tavern, the Mermaid Tavern, or the Crown Inn. The Prudence was a modest vessel; four or five good men would be enough. In a port as busy as Bridgetown, that should not be an impossible task. But you would have to choose wisely — in the vast, indifferent expanse of the sea, your life would soon be depend on these men. So, where first?
