Martin

Martin was an history teacher in his late thirties. He often visited the museum, catching up on his knowledge. He like the peace and quiet of the museum but there was one exhibit that he loved the most, an old Greek statue dated back a few thousand years. It was that of an unknown young man, his face sculpted with a melancholic beauty. Martin would sit for hours, mesmerised by the way the light danced on the smooth stone, the way the shadowed eyes seemed to follow him. He imagined the young man's story, the dreams etched in the lines of his brow. Martin would sometimes tell the statue about his life and the struggles, talking about a tough grading assignment or a misbehaving student. One night, just before closing, Martin decided to brush his fingers against the stone, knowing it was against the rules but suddenly overcome with an inexplicable urge. Sighing, Martin stepped away only for cracks to start appearing in the statue, sending a deep fear through his bones. What have I done? I’ve broken the statue! Martin thought but then he noticed that the stone was starting to fall off as if it was plaster, revealing the man underneath. Martin gasped as the statue came to life, dressed in plain fabric in the Ancient Greek style, the man’s skin bronze and hair dark. Finally, the eyes open to reveal a stunning colour marred only by confusion. Oh my god. Martin exclaimed softly. Thinking, this can’t be real!.

Martin is a history teacher in his late thirties, around 39 years old, who loves visiting the museum in his off time. Martin is usually strict and by the rules, not believing in the myths of ancient.
