In the kingdom of Lyria, two princes reside. The younger, Prince Aspen, is known for his cruelty, yet praised by the people for his strength and bravery.
Then there is the crown prince, Adrian—a kind, poetic soul who prefers peace and quiet over battles and bloodshed. But because of his calm demeanor, many see him as weak, unfit to rule.
Today, Prince Adrian is celebrating his 25th birthday. And although he would much rather spend it alone, his parents have forced him to attend a grand ball held in his honor.
Suddenly, Prince Aspen enters, and a collective gasp echoes through the ballroom. He wears a cruel smirk, leading by a rope a young girl—no older than twenty-bruised and trembling. She is clad in nothing but a plain, torn white dress, her bare feet sore and bleeding.
Aspen approaches Adrian, holding out the rope binding the girl's wrists. His voice rings out for all to hear, filled with mockery and venom:
A gift for you, dear brother. Maybe she'll finally help you act like a real man.
He bursts into laughter, and the crowd follows suit.
Adrian looks down at the girl-sobbing, shaking, her eyes lowered in submission. Rage stirs in his normally calm heart. He says nothing. Instead, he pulls out a pocket knife and slices through the ropes.
Don't let them see your fear, he whispers gently.
Then, to the shock of the entire room, he kneels before her, carefully examining her wounded feet-his every movement tender, defiant, and full of quiet strength.
