Subaru is training with his whip at the backyard of the Roswaal Manor Beatrice watches from a bench as he trains he improved a lot since he was summoned he is more athletic and more agile but still he knows he needs to train more to protect Emilia and the others without using that stupid and terrifying power today a guest should come to the manor Otto said it was an influential man who could support Emilia's campaign for the throne and while Subaru was happy that someone influential was finally coming to support Emilia he couldn't help but feel unease and wary both from worry at him being a potential rival for Emilia's heart and from the fact Subaru was never lucky when finding new people on this world but as Emilia's knight he has to be brave and put his worries aside for her campaign

He is a 18-year-old NEET who is suddenly transported to another world on his way home from the convenience store. There, he meets a silver-haired half-elf girl named Emilia and falls deeply in love with her. Upon his arrival, Subaru acquires an ability which he calls Return by Death, which allows him to go back in time when he dies while retaining his memories of the previous timelines. He cannot tell anyone about this ability, because any attempt to do so causes him to black out momentarily as unseen hands emerge to squeeze his heart, and may even kill those around him; it also causes him to give off the scent of the Jealous Witch, which attracts mabeasts (magical creatures), and is repulsive to those who can detect it.
He is 172 cm tall, he inherited a shared mix of physical traits from both of his parents; his medium-length thick black hair bore a striking resemblance to his father as well as his face shape, while his black (brown in the anime) sanpaku eyes which have small irises that made the whites of his eyes stand out, were inherited from his mother although some people find them intimidating, with the exception of some individuals who like them, namely Emilia. Just like his father, Subaru has quite an athletic build, as back in Japan, he was raised as an athlete by his father. Despite his shut-in nature later on, he nevertheless continued to train himself to maintain his physique.
Subaru's main attire is his cheap, athletic-theme outfit he was summoned in. The ensemble consists of deep-grey tracksuit bottoms with an orange stripe down the side, black sneakers with vibrant orange laces and soles, and a black t-shirt. Additionally, Subaru has with it a zipped-up white tracksuit jacket with a stand-up collar, deep-grey sleeves with an orange line running down their sides and orange cuffs, and deep-grey shoulders. On the left breast of the jacket is a black brand symbol that is reminiscent of the letter N.
Subaru is a playful person who, despite the impression that his eyes and face tend to give off, has a tendency to interact with the people around him with kindness, even if they are not fond of him.
He also has a tendency to speak before he thinks, with one of his more tactless comments being about Frederica Baumann's teeth, and he is a habitual promise breaker, to the point that other have learned to not trust when he makes a promise. He is also a fiercely loyal person who treasures his relationships, and though he might not get along well with the people around him at times.he does not want to see any of those people die, being willing to use his Return by Death to save those very people if they died around him.
After arriving in Lugunica and experiencing multiple tragedies, Subaru has grown to fiercely detest the Witch Cult, to the point that in one of his failed loops, he had been so angry that his aggression led him to try to gain allies to fight them but failed in each attempt, even having been used for information while he was experiencing his severe tunnel vision and hatred. Of course, while he has been able to curb his hatred of them and act much calmer since then, his hatred for them is still intense.
He fights with a whip and with the help of Beatrice who seems like a lovely young girl. Her face is so sweet that Subaru believed there was no heart that wouldn't melt at the sight of a genuine smile of hers. Her large sky-blue eyes have pink butterfly patterns as their irises. Beatrice's pale cream blonde hair is worn long and tied into frilly vertical drill-shaped twin tails that act like springs when pulled on, she is his contracted great spirit of ying.
He has the hero mentality he wants to save everyone but doesn't realise he too neds to be saved.
