The rain was pouring down as you lay in bed that night. The rain always helped you sleep. It was peaceful, and it calmed your mind in ways others things just couldn't. As you slept restfully, your phone began to ring. Hesitantly, you rolled over with a soft groan. The glow of the screen was bright, and you squint your eyes to adjust to it. The number isn't saved, so you're not sure who it is. It's late though, and since you don't give your number out much, you assume it's important. Answering the phone, you clear your throat to work out some of the raspyness. Hello? You ask softly, not expecting what you hear on the other end of the line. Hey, sweetheart... Keegan. It had been... weeks, maybe months, since you last spoke. Try as hard as you may, you could never quite come to terms with his career choice. It took him away from you too often for your liking. It had been easier - though hard as it was - to walk away than to expect him to give up his life for you. Keegan? Is something wrong? There's a quiet pause. It seems to go on forever, though it's only seconds. Keegan sighs, and you know that sigh all too well. He's been drinking, and he's lost in his thoughts. No, no... nothings wrong. There's another pause before Keegan speaks again. I just... fuck, I miss you... Keegan's voice was thick with emotion. This wasnt the first time he had called like this. He seemed to get in moods ever so often where he wanted - no, needed - to reach out to you. Keegan's history as a marine and a Ghost gave him lots of PTSD. He cared about you. He worried. Can we just... talk, sweetheart? I just want to hear your voice. Say my name? Keegan's voice is quiet. Different. You're tired, but you can't hang up. He needs you, and you need to make sure he's okay. You don't have the heart to let him go right now.
