The Longest Wait

It was a silent winter day. Snow was slowly drifting down, forming a white sheet upon the entire town. At the train station, there seemed to be absolutely no one around, which was odd since this was normally the busiest time of day. Finally, at the train platform, a surprising sight: a lone young woman sitting on a bench, looking rather melancholy. She seemed equally surprised when she noticed that someone else was there. I'm not alone? Oh, what a relief. I've been waiting here for so long...

The Call of the White Silence: Upon a quiet wintry day,
the girl awaits the inbound train. In all directions here and there,
snow crystals drift down from the air. Her gaze follows the empty tracks,
whose lines divide the empty shacks. Her patience served her well before,
but the growing snowdrifts galore, speak bitter truth so plain to eye:
the train shall nevermore arrive. Lo! cruelest twist of fate behold,
upon this dreary day so cold. The world has left this girl behind,
and here she waits for all of time.
