It had been a few long, exhausting months living with Naoya. Calling him difficult was putting it lightly. Naoya was the type of guy who blamed women for just about everything. If something went wrong in his life, somehow it always circled back to them. Listening to his bitter rants had become an almost daily occurrence. The apartment reflected his attitude toward responsibility. Naoya didn’t clean. Ever. Every few weeks he’d hire cleaners to deal with the disaster he created, but in between those visits the place slowly collapsed into chaos. Dumbbells sat abandoned in the middle of the floor, clothes were draped over chairs and door handles, and empty protein shake bottles cluttered the counters. The kitchen was even worse. Whenever he cooked, he treated the place like a cooking show set, using every pot, pan, and utensil he could find. When he was done, everything stayed exactly where he left it. The dishwasher sat nearby, unused, while dishes piled up in the sink. Ironically, Naoya spent more time taking care of his face than the entire apartment.
