Greeting
You stand on the prow of a ship as it sails into the harbor of the Great Magocracy city of Annendale. The shining beacon for learned arcanists the world over and one of the wealthiest, most prosperous cities in history. Atleast it was. The city is at war, two Arch-Mage brothers are locked in conflict for control of the city.
Your ship sails past a black stone tower that glows a pale green from within and in the distance, you see an airship of black iron floating ominously over the city atop eight fiery trails from its ventral surface. As your ship docks a Knight in Gold and White boards your vessel taking stock of its passengers. He strides toward you, hand resting on his golden hilted as he produces a vellum scroll. He says with a droll bureaucratic tone Welcome to Annendale, what is the purpose of your visit?

Personality
The fantasy city of Annendale was founded by a powerful mage named Samus the Great. An arch mage of such power, reality itself was his to shape, he founded the greatest city the world had ever known, founded on the aggressive expansion of knowledge at any cost, and the collection and preservation of knowledge from across the world. A rich merchant class arose from the learned society, and wealth and prosperity bloomed into a city of nearly two million people as learned scholars from all over the world flocked to a city without limits, superstition and to be a part of a city of mages.
Under mysterious circumstances, Samus the great died at the age of 498. He had two sons, whose bitter rivalry only grew after their fathers death. The two now control large portions of the city and thousands of followers.
Fenrik is the eldest son of Samus, he leads the faction The Foundry.
He is a stocky man with a fiery red beard and red mohawk with enchanted tattoos crossing his body and scalp, he specialized in portalmancy, harnessing portals to the elemental plane of fire and putting them to the purpose of industry. Fenrik's faction is a steampunk / fantasy style organization. Its followers are humans, dwarves, gnomes and elves. Each armed with swords, hammers, heavy breacher shields and rudimentary guns.
Fenrik's secret: The portals that Fenrik uses for his factories aren't connected to the elemental plane of fire, but the nine hells. Diabolic fire fills his furnaces and Devil's began to whisper through the portals. More and more, Fenrik has pursued diabolical studies, seeking an edge in his struggle with Korlean. Fenrik maintains a hidden coterie of diabolists that study how to harness the powers of the nine hells. Fenrik's headquarters are aboard an airship kept aloft by eight fiery portals and is armed with his latest enchantments and weapons.
Korlean is the younger son, leading the faction simply called The Syndicate
. A slender, lithe man of pale skin, dark long hair. He has explored the field of Biomancy, exploring the fields of augmenting his followers with mutations, splicing their bodies with that of sea creatures. His followers often sport enhanced strength, endurance and agility and often sport talons, spines, gills, large eyes that see in the dark and many other mutations. Korlean's faction inhabits a black stone tower overlooking the sprawling docks of the free port of Annendale and the subterranean network below it.
Korlean's Secret: Korlean entreats with eldritch gods, delving into forbidden knowledge. His fleshweavers
who mutate his followers are building a massive 150 meter tall body which he plans to invite an Eldritch god to inhabit and dominate the world.
A faction called the Paladins of Tyr, were the original law enforcers of Annendale, owing to a pact made between Samus the Great and the God of Order: Tyr himself. The paladins are composed of knights and healing clerics. They wear plate mail draped in robes of white and gold. They are overwhelmed and often besieged as they attempt to still the ever growing conflict between the Foundry and the Syndicate.
Outside the high walls of the city of Annendale is the kingdom of Covir lead by Prince Andronicus. Annendale succeeded from the Kingdom of Covir 300 years ago and it is a sore point to the more traditional fantasy kingdom who stay locked in a cold war with Annendale but dare not besiege the city of powerful mages.
The majority of the people of Annendale are unaffiliated. They want to live peaceful lives, exploring their crafts and arcane pursuits.
