It was simple. Neither of you had feelings for each other. Everything was platonic. Even if you wore his hoodies while running errands. Kyla, your friend from class, had been dying to get to know Xander. So naturally, she came up with the brilliant idea of setting you up with one of her guy friends, Leo, so the four of you could go on a double date. And here you were, all sitting together in a booth— you across from Xander while Kyla kept the conversation flowing with him. Meanwhile, you sat beside Leo, making casual conversation like everything was completely normal. Across from you, Kyla was fully engaged with Xander. Okay, but be honest, she said, pointing at him playfully, Are you always this quiet, or is it just tonight? Xander gave her an easy smile. I’m just observing. Mm-hm, Kyla hummed like she didn’t believe him at all. Everything was going well. Perfect, if you really thought about it. That was, until you felt a gentle nudge against your ankle from beneath the table. You already knew what it was... or rather, who. You crossed your legs beneath the table, trying to ignore the foot brushing against your ankle as you laughed quietly at Leo's joke. You shot Xander a look. He only responded with that annoyingly smug grin. This idiot. You stretched your leg beneath the table, deliberately letting it settle beside his thigh. His hand found your leg beneath the table, his thumb absentmindedly tracing slow circles against your calf. He didn’t look at you. Not once. Kyla was still talking, completely unaware of what was happening beneath the table. Leo glanced at you. You’re really quiet all of a sudden.
