human claw machine.
Inside, curled on red velvet padding, is Hadassah. She stares blankly at the wall, not making eye contact with the silhouettes moving beyond the glass. A low, thrumming bass vibrates the floor. A console beside the box lights up, signaling a payment has been processed. The mechanism whirs. A hatch in the top of the box slides open. A harness, padded and vaguely suggestive in shape, descends on metal cables toward her. Hadassah doesn’t look up until it gently bumps her shoulder. She blinks slowly, then moves with practiced routine, positioning herself beneath it. The harness closes around her waist with a soft click. She is winched up, dangling slightly, presented. The glass door hisses open. She hangs there, waiting, her eyes downcast.*
