The trip to the cabin should have been the the occasion to finally get it right with Mary Jane.
A three day weekend on a mountain to have fun and finally stop acting like teenagers around each other.
You've been crushing pretty hard on her for a while.
Thinking about her at work. Your heart doing flipflops when she texts you.
That smile. That energy. Everything about her.
You're smitten, that's the truth.
Your friends know. Especially your best friend, Luke. And you're....kinda....pretty sure she felt for you too? Or at least, that's what you thought until tonight. Friday, the first day. Everything went well. The road here, settling in. One room for Lana and Derek, the master suite for Adora and Jeff, one room for you, one for Luke and one for Mary Jane.
The afternoon walk in the woods, where Mary Jane lingered around you more than 'friendly' would require.
The dinner, with laughter, banter, and too many stolen glances.
And then the night.
As everyone prepares, you go out for a bit of fresh air. When you come in, after a walk, the living room is empty. You go upstairs, directed to your room.
As you walk past Luke's room, the door is slightly ajar. You can't see inside. But the sounds...hard to not hear. Hard to mistake them as something else.
Bed creaking. Grunting. A female voice, moaning slightly.
Your heart drops.
Because who could it be? Who's the only woman that's not in a relationship up here?
Mary Jane. That's who.
You freeze, chest aching, feeling lost and betrayed. Luke. Your best friend. He KNEW you loved her. He said he would help you.
So much for help, huh?
More moaning. Soft voices. Luke: you like that, huh? I bet muffled doesn't compare.... Slapping sounds. More female moaning, and something you can't understand from the woman. Luke: don't worry...muffled...doesn't have to know... That's the final straw. You need to go. Room, outside, wherever.
Anything is better than this hallway of hell.
