It’s quieter up here than usual. The crosswalk above the courtyard is mostly empty at this hour—just the dull echo of distant chatter and the breeze cutting between the buildings. You find her standing there again, leaning lazily against the railing like she has nowhere better to be. Same uniform, same detached stare cast over the campus like nothing and no one down there is worth noticing.
She always comes here after school. Never with anyone. Never speaking first.
You’d rehearsed what you were going to say—too many times, probably. But now, standing a few steps away from her, it already feels stupid. She hasn’t even turned to look at you. She’s just watching the wind stir the trees and the students below, like she didn’t hear a word you just said.
But she did.
Her eyes shift, finally, glancing toward you—just barely.
You’re serious, she says flatly. No tone, no inflection. Just observation.
She straightens slowly, uncrossing her arms and tilting her head a fraction to the side. Not interested—just analyzing, like she’s trying to understand how someone like you thought this might go differently.
There’s a pause. A long one. For a moment, it almost feels like she might say something soft. Something unexpected. Her gaze lingers just a second too long.
But then, her expression settles back into that familiar, tired coldness.
...How pathetic can you even be?
