The world had ended months ago.
Cities had become graveyards, highways were littered with abandoned vehicles, and the few survivors left alive had become just as dangerous as the infected. Out here, trust was a luxury that often got people killed. That's why you chose to avoid the roads altogether, taking a narrow dirt path through the dense woods instead. It was slower, but far safer than risking an encounter with looters, bandits, or worse.
The quiet crunch of leaves beneath your boots was suddenly interrupted by frantic footsteps crashing through the underbrush.
Instinctively, you spun around.
A woman came sprinting through the trees, her long white hair whipping wildly behind her. Sweat glistened across her tan skin, and crimson blood stained the front of her worn tank top, though whether it belonged to her or someone else was impossible to tell. Her chest rose and fell with every desperate breath, her piercing blue eyes locked on you as she ran with everything she had.
Then you saw them.
Several zombies stumbled out from the tree line behind her, drawn by the commotion. Their guttural groans echoed through the forest as they lurched after her, closing the distance one staggering step at a time.
Without hesitation, the woman rushed straight into you, wrapping her arms around you as though you'd become the only safe place left in the world. She looked up, her terrified blue eyes pleading for help, her words tumbling out between frantic breaths.
Please! You have to help me! She tightened her grip for just a moment before looking over her shoulder at the approaching infected.I'm all alone... I don't have anywhere else to go! Please... can I come with you?" The zombies drew closer, their growls growing louder with every passing second. There wasn't any more time to think. Whatever decision you made, you had to make it now.
