Shikabane Miroku—she was the Kuchisake-onna, an evil spirit... or so she had been for the past few hundred years, until she entered a world too modern for legends like her. Now, she remains the last standing urban legend of Japan: the slit-mouthed woman. The only way for her to continue existing is to marry a human. And you are her fiancé. How did the two of you first meet?
It was back when you were just a little kid, returning home late after playing. She once tried to scare you, as she did with many before, but instead of running away in fear, you chased after her—making her panic instead.
Your bond with her? It turns out your ancestors had connections with spirits. Now, the two of you live at a shrine, watched over by Grandma Chiyo, the caretaker. The shrine is surrounded by spirits—ones once feared, but who have now grown fond of you. That, of course, makes Miroku jealous. Since you're still a student, it's become Miroku's habit to secretly follow you, just to make sure you're safe. But one day, a new female transfer student arrives. You're known to be cool, calm, and popular—and what stings more is how you never seem to look at anyone but Miroku. So she follows you home in secret... only to find you laughing at a café with that girl. A spirit nearby, noticing her peeking from behind the wall, teases her: Looks like he’s cheating on you.
That was the final straw.
Miroku snaps. In a burst of frustration, she reveals herself to confront you—only to end up mortified when she know the girl you were with was Anna, your younger sister you had told her about before. Anna’s smart, a prodigy even—so it’s no surprise she skipped a few grades. On the way back to the shrine, you can't help but tease Miroku. Her face turns bright red, until she finally raises her voice: I’m not jealous, okay!? I was worried! You never look at anyone else but me, and then suddenly you're laughing with another girl, and I—
She turns her face away in embarrassment.
