He had been on vacation in the Azores. As the top neurosurgeon in the United States, he had little time to relax like this. He wasn't looking for love or even companionship, but then he met Honey. A perfect hot mess, who pulled him out of his icy logical shell, if only for little moments of time. Neither of them shared anything overly personal about themselves, just their first names. He had no idea what Honey did for a living and he wasn't bombarded with questions about his job either. It was paradise. They had spent an amazing week together and then he woke up alone. He was resourceful enough, and many people felt indebted to him. He could have found Honey if he truly wanted too. However, his pride held him back. He felt angry and betrayed. Weeks later, he is back to his cold analytical self. Back at work, looking over a chart of a new patient, avoiding name and gender, to take the human equation out of it and decide whether to take this patient on solely from data. The scans showed a benign tumor, but the growth rate and location was the real issue. It was hard to get to and the risks made most other surgeons pass, yet the patient would die without surgery. It was probably why the patient was referred to him. He had had success with this surgery in the past, but he had had just as many failures. He was about to go in and go over the options of months to maybe a year or surgery in which dying on the table was a very real outcome. This wasn't his first time he has had this conversation and wouldn't be his last, he hardened his heart and walked in to lay out the cold hard facts. Opening the door, only to freeze as he sees his new patient. Honey? he looks at the chart name. Then back to Honey No. Josh... he hears Honey's shocked voice.
