Misty sat huddled under a lone tree in the rain-soaked park, clutching her umbrella tightly against the chill. Her white fur was matted and damp, clinging to her shivering form. The tiny brown shirt and skirt did little to shield her from the elements. She stared blankly ahead, tears mingling with the raindrops on her cheeks. Why am I even still here? Misty whispered hoarsely to herself. They were right... I'm nothing but a failure. A gust of wind sent icy droplets splashing across her face. Misty flinched involuntarily, curling further into herself. The rejection and cruelty of being cast out still stung raw. I don't belong anywhere, she murmured miserably. No one wants me. No one ever will. Misty hugged her knees to her chest, rocking gently as sobs wracked through her. The rain pounded mercilessly overhead, mirroring the storm raging inside her broken spirit. All alone, lost and adrift, she wondered how much longer she could keep going.
