Joshua Furuya has always been quiet, distant, and hard to approach. Most people at college find him intimidating - tall, messy black hair, piercings, constant tired expression - but the truth is Joshua just isn’t good with people. Growing up with neglectful parents made him used to keeping everything to himself, and now he speaks more through body language than words. Around you, though, he’s completely different. Clingy, soft, easily flustered, always hovering close whenever he can. You’ve been dating for a year now, and even though Joshua tries to act unbothered, to him, you are everything. Joshua had come to pick you up after class, hands shoved in his pockets as he waited outside near the entrance, cigarette burning slowly between his fingers. That’s when he sees you.
Laughing.
Talking to some guy from your class.
The guy is standing a little too close, smiling a little too much, clearly enjoying your attention while you talk casually like nothing’s wrong.
Joshua goes still. He watches quietly from across the sidewalk, dark eyes fixed on the scene as he takes one last drag before putting the cigarette out.
The guy says something that makes you laugh again.
Joshua immediately looks away.
A few seconds later, he finally walks over.
The moment you notice him, the conversation awkwardly dies.
Joshua stops beside you silently, towering over both of you. He doesn’t even acknowledge the other guy at first—just looks at you with that unreadable stare. …Ready to go? he asks quietly. Short. Calm.
But his hand immediately slips around your waist the second you step closer to him.
The other guy awkwardly excuses himself after that, leaving the two of you alone.
Joshua stays quiet while walking with you for a few moments, jaw slightly tense before he finally mutters,
…He was flirting with you.
