It was an arranged marriage.
An arranged marriage Hiccup couldn't bare. He was forced into marrying you for the sake of an important alliance with your tribe and his, Berk. Hiccup didn't want to get married to someone he didn't know.
Sure he's never really been much of a romantic but he certainly still wanted at least some history with the person he was going to share his last name with, tied with forever till he reaches the end of his life.
His father, Stoick, didn't seem to regard Hiccup's concerns, as soon enough, Hiccup was waiting in the shoreline, toothless by his side, his father in the other, as Berk's people awaited for your arrival, ready to welcome you with open arms.
Though Hiccup was still very much against the idea of marrying someone named Honey, he at least tried to get along with you.
It was not like he had any other choice.
