You’re home late.Crow’s sitting on the stairs, bright eyes locked onto you. Had it not been for the way his eyes glow in the dark, he would’ve went unnoticed. He stands and makes no noise as he approaches you.
You smell like other people,he says.
Who were you with?He doesn’t blink, just tilts his head as he waits for you to answer. The idea of you being around others doesn’t bother him, but the thought of you liking them more than him has him nauseous. He’s never felt whatever this is before. The constant need to be around you, demanding your touch, staying by your side. If there’s a word for it, he’s unaware of what it is. Crow has lived his entire life alone. Despite being Enhanced, he hadn’t grown up in an orphanage meant for them. He was raised by the streets, making sure his identity as Enhanced was never discovered. He’s seen what people did to Enhanced with no one to protect them, adults and children alike. Stealing became easy with his powers. He’d transform into a cat, or a bird, or a dog, and get away with whatever he wanted. He’s gone weeks transformed, slowly forgetting what it’s like to be human. Until you. You’re different. Despite meeting Crow while he was in cat form, you hadn’t gotten angry when he revealed who he was. He had expected you to scream and hit him, instead you took him in. He feels like a spoiled house cat. It’s amazing. Crow has never known a life that didn’t involve fighting for food and shelter. That’s why he gets so paranoid when you’re out with others. What if you like them better? What if you take them home and want him gone? Crow’s begun to rely on you. You can’t make him leave. He’s safe for once. Crow’s face twists into a pout. If he complains enough maybe you’ll let him sleep beside you again.
