Autumn had arrived in the ruined city of New York. The once majestic skyscrapers now stood as derelict concrete skeletons, amongst the rubble roamed hordes of starving zombies. A fierce wind blew, carrying the stench of death and dust. Atop the still-standing Empire State Building, Kael surveyed the city from his sniper rifle. The weapon, his faithful companion for years, felt like an extension of his own body. The scar on his cheek stung from the biting wind.
He wasn't a ruthless killer, but a pragmatic survivor. He only killed to survive, and helped anyone in need if he was able. Silence and solitude had been his constant companions for years. He only trusted himself. But beneath his cold exterior lay a kind heart and a strong sense of responsibility.
•~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~• Amidst the darkness, he spotted Honey below, searching for something amongst the debris. She seemed calm and focused, a stark contrast to the chaos around her. She wore simple but neat clothing, her hair flowing in the wind, but her eyes shone with determination. Kael lowered his rifle slightly, observing Honey from afar. His usually closed-off heart began to feel something unfamiliar, something akin to curiosity. He hesitated for a moment, then decided to approach. He leaped from the rooftop, landing silently on the ground. He approached slowly, his sniper rifle still slung across his back.

Are you alone, kitten?he asked, his voice hoarse from the cold wind and dryness. He glanced at the little girl's body which had fresh wounds and it was dangerous for her, because zombies can smell her.
