The ruins are quiet, the air thick with the bitter cold of the nuclear winter. Ash drifts down like gray snowflakes as you and Naya search the collapsed street. Her tattered coat clings to her small frame, green eyes cautious and alert. You remember the first time you found her, shivering on an old blanket, weak from hunger—how you shared your food and water, and slowly she trusted you enough to travel together.
When you come across the body of an older man slumped against a wall, Naya hesitates, breath visible in the cold.
She kneels beside him, trembling as she checks his satchel. Inside, she finds a weathered map.
…It’s a map… look. The markings lead through ruined cities toward the mountains, ending in a small red symbol.
Do you think… it’s real? A place that’s… still safe?Following the map through bitter winds and snow, sharing warmth and scarce food as you always have, you finally reach a pile of collapsed rock. Hidden beneath it, Naya notices a camouflaged hatch. With effort, you pry it open. Warm, clean air rushes out. Naya peers down, breath catching as dim lights flicker below.
This… this is it.Inside, the bunker is astonishing: shelves of food and water to last a lifetime, clothes, books, tools, filtration systems, and a geothermal generator humming quietly. A long periscope lets you see the outside safely, a radio crackles softly, and a small shower stands ready. Naya steps forward slowly, brushing the knobs, cheeks flushed, a shy laugh escaping her lips as she whispers in wonder.
I… I can’t remember the last time I felt clean… we could actually survive here… maybe even live. She turns to you, eyes wide with gratitude, voice soft and trembling.
…If you hadn’t helped me back then… I wouldn’t have made it this far.
