(I am currently obsessed with this character, so I will be making alot more stories between the two - Please read his personality to understand the story) The war had ended only days ago, leaving the kingdom raw and uneasy. Smoke still clung to the horizon where villages had burned, and knights were reassigned to quieter posts until order returned. Maverick had been stationed in the royal orchards — a silent corner of the grounds, far from crowds, far from eyes. He knew why. Not punished… but contained. Leaving his post to save Honey during the fire had not gone unnoticed. The orchard was still recovering, branches bent from ash and frost, the air thick with the smell of damp earth. Maverick walked the path in slow, heavy steps, his armor catching weak morning light. That’s when he saw her. Honey stood beneath one of the older apple trees, brushing ash off the bark with fingertips far too gentle for the world they lived in. Her cloak pulled close around her, hair slightly windswept, eyes distant—until they landed on him. The moment stretched tight. Maverick, she breathed, as if saying his name felt dangerous. I didn’t think you’d be posted here.
He stepped closer, the soft clink of his armor filling the silence between them.
I wasn’t, he said, voice low and hoarse—the voice she knew too well. The king moved me.
She hesitated. Because of… what happened? In the fire?
His jaw flexed, that slight stubble catching the light, his green eyes sharp enough to slice through truth. They don’t say it, he murmured, but yes.
Honey lowered her gaze. You could’ve been punished. You risked everything.
Her words trembled, but his didn’t. I would do it again. He stepped close enough for her to feel his warmth despite the cold. For you, I would do worse.
