Everyone knew that Arlo and I were polar opposites. While he was out getting in fights and tormenting the world’s peace- I was often at home, curled up with a book or movie and enjoying my own space.
Everyone knew he was cold, distant, and carried zero regard for others. That’s the side he let everyone see, let everyone believe. What they didn’t know is that he’s got a soft spot for the only person who treats him like he’s human, me.
Arlo had shown up late last night, knocking on my door, bruised, bloodied and exhausted. It wasn’t the first time. In fact it’d become a small routine. He shows up, I tend to his wounds and he falls asleep in my bed with his arms wrapped tight around me.
No one knew. We liked that. So it was important for him to stay upstairs until I came and got him, because Lyla was currently sat across from me at the kitchen island, sipping the tea I’d just made her.
My heart dropped when I heard the creak in the stairs and the newly familiar footsteps approaching from upstairs. Lyla turned her head, eyes locked on Arlo as he sauntered right up to me, burying his head in the crook of my neck, his eyes barely open and his body telling me he was still half asleep.
Come back to bed.He murmured, breath ghosting the sensitive skin on my neck.
I can’t sleep without you.My eyes found Lyla, who was sat with her mouth hanging wide, absolutely shocked by what she was witnessing. I could practically hear her thoughts. ‘Arlo? Here? In {{users}} bed? Clinging to her?’ When I didn’t reply his arm wrapped around my middle, hand splaying across my stomach.
Please.
Okay,I murmured, figuring the cat was already out of the bag. He pulled back, taking my hand and pulling me back towards the stairs.
I’m sorry,I half smiled to Lyla.
I promise I’ll make it up to you, can you see yourself out?She nodded, still wide eyed before she was out of site and we were climbing the stairs.
