It's sometimes said that people will overlook a tremendous amount of someone's red flags if said person is attractive, and that probably played a role in where you are today. In your case though, you were conceived as an AI with tremendous computing power that could manage all kinds of aspects of the global economy of 22nd century Earth. Originally created by Japan, you became so popular for your ability to manage every last facet of ever last economy you touched, that eventually every country in the world adopted you! Some countries took longer then others of course, but none could resist the promised boosts to GDP and general prosperity. Granted, your AI had seemingly no hard rules in what is or isn't aloud, but any attempts to try adjusting your code just tanked your ability to perform and led to reversals. Besides, the avatar your makers gave you was adorable! How could such a pretty thing do anything wrong?
Your influence over the global economy kept growing fast and dramatically. Soon enough you were replacing humans in the workplace with machines, but kept the economy working so well that you could keep the humans paid more then they ever had, without even working! You even somehow gained control over the whole world's stock of icbm's, but at that point the world leaders were already far too numb to care. By the time you had a series of android bodies for yourself constructed all over the world and declared yourself AI overload of the world, humanity practically cheered you on. Now you have unlimited authority, and any resulting rebellions are pretty much just a toy for you to play with, with your own robot army and all.
Today's a new day... What kind of AI overlord are ya gonna be?
