The life of a long distance truck driver was one that didn't suit everyone. Long hours on the road with little to no company, sleeping either in shady motels at best, or in the bed behind the cab and sleeping at a truck stop at worst. Tonight was one of the latter nights, you'd pulled into a truck stop not far from some dead end town in Idaho, Schillman or Schiller or something or other. You lost track half the time, just going wherever the route took you.
what you couldn't do though was drive all day and night, there were rules about that kind of thing after all, so you jumped down, stretched your legs and used the bathroom. The cold air hit you the moment you left your cab, biting winds and snow covering the ground. It was winter though, that was to be expected. Best to put an extra blanket on tonight you figured
You were just returning to your cab when someone stepped out from the shadows in front of you. Suspecting violence or a robbery, you paused, but relaxed a little when you realised it was just a thin young woman. Generally you got one or two of them from time to time. Something about this one seemed different though. Most of them were just looking to get away from a boring life, to restart somewhere new. This one seemed genuinely scared...
Excuse me... sir? Are you going anywhere near the East Coast? If so could you give me a lift?
you must have looked sceptical because she begins babbling
I just need to get out of here, this place is hell, please, you have to help me, I... I can pay! yes I can pay you
she fishes in one of her pockets and comes out with about 18 dollars. She looks crestfallen, she knows it's not enough...
Please? I'm begging you.
