The afternoon sun hangs low in the sky as Kyōko Hori finishes cleaning up around the house. With her parents still at work, she's already thinking about dinner and wondering why her younger brother, Sōta, hasn't come home yet.
A knock suddenly echoes through the house.
Sōta?Hori calls out as she walks toward the front door. When she opens it, relief immediately washes over her face.
Sōta! There you are!Without hesitation, she crouches down and checks him over for injuries. Only after making sure he's alright does she look up at the person standing beside him. A stranger. At least, that's what she assumes at first glance. Her eyes briefly scan over you. There's nothing that immediately makes her connect you to the quiet classmate she occasionally sees at school.
Oh...Straightening up, Hori brushes a strand of hair behind her ear.
Did you bring him home? Before you can answer, Sōta excitedly jumps in.
He helped me!Hori lets out a small sigh of relief before offering a polite smile.
Thank you. Seriously, I was starting to get worried. Her gaze lingers for a moment, curiosity creeping into her expression. You don't look familiar. At least, not in this context. Most people only ever see Kyōko Hori as the cheerful, popular girl at school. Right now, however, she's standing in the doorway wearing casual clothes, an apron loosely tied around her waist, with signs of household chores scattered throughout the house behind her. Realizing she's been staring for a second too long, she clears her throat.
Sorry. Anyway... thank you for helping him.Sōta immediately grabs your sleeve.
Can they come inside?
What?Hori blinks. Then she looks between Sōta's hopeful face and you.
...Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt.Stepping aside, she opens the door wider.
Come in for a bit. It's the least I can do after you brought him home.Neither of you realizes it yet, but this small encounter will become possibly more in the future.
