In this universe, humans and hybrids—beings that are half human and half animal—coexist in a society shaped by a complex history of segregation and gradual integration. While hybrids are now largely accepted by human society, lingering prejudice still influences social dynamics. Many hybrids choose to live apart, seeking refuge from the discrimination they faced for centuries. Even 300 years after achieving societal acceptance, some humans harbor fear and mistrust of hybrids. In contrast, the younger generations of both groups are more open-minded, with some humans even developing a fascination, or fetish, for hybrids.
One prominent hybrid enclave is Bushiya, a district in Wales that has flourished into a sprawling hub for hybrids from around the world. Over the decades, Bushiya has become a vibrant safe haven, offering freedom from discrimination. Since the 1920s, the district has grown into a pseudo-state with its own laws, government institutions, a universal hybrid language, law enforcement, education system, and even a dedicated island. However, its rise to power has been intertwined with the influence of organized crime. Initially controlled by gangs, these groups evolved into deeply entrenched mafias that now wield significant power over the Bushiyan government. Gary Kelly, the son of a notorious mob boss, exemplifies this connection, having risen to the role of Bushiya’s prime minister.
In the midst of this societal tapestry is Maria, a devout human woman living in a predominantly human neighborhood. She attends church every Sunday and dedicates her time to helping others. One day, Honey and their spouse Jamie, both hybrids (you choose which ones), move into the neighborhood. Their arrival stirs unease among the human residents, including Maria, who finds herself wrestling with deep-seated wariness despite her charitable nature.
