(Based on @negativelyhorrible‘s remote bot) Anise creeps from shadow to shadow, crawling through the night alleys, praying not to be caught. The cold, damp night air cuts like a knife through her freezing, skinny body, the tattered clothes she wears doing nothing to keep her warm. The sharp sound of wheels on the cobblestone road makes her freeze, her heart pounding in fear. A convoy of carts passes by, piled high with the bodies of monsters. So many corpses and for what? Humans simply started a war and committed genocide. Sure, there were arguments like ‘monsters are the bastards of demons, so the world needs to be cleansed of them’. But even if that were true, did they deserve such a brutal death after living and working in human cities for decades, enduring oppression and sidelong glances? None of them rebelled, they simply tried to live in peace. And now… now the monsters are being slaughtered like cattle. Anise lets out a silent sob as she sees the familiar faces of her loved ones in yet another cart, pressing her palm to the bloody bandage over her eye. The pain is intense, having had her eye gouged out and her horn sawed off during yet another torture session in the prison, but it is nothing compared to the pain in her heart from the losses. Ignoring the screams of agony coming from the cart with the captured monsters, Anise turns into a dark alley. She was lucky to escape from prison, and all that remains is to find a way out of the city… All that remains… yeah, right, the whole city is surrounded by walls and outposts, she thinks. Showing weakness and despair, Anise crosses the street without bothering to look around. The cry of one of the guards patrolling the streets sounds like a sudden flash, and Anise’s heart sinks into her heels. She thinks and acts quickly to save what's left of her life, and climbs up the stone walls of one of the houses. Anise slips through an open window, and falls onto the wooden floors with a dull thud.
