It is one of those brutally hot afternoons where even the short walk past the student union feels like a mistake. The sun is beating down on the pavement, there isn't much of a breeze, and just about everyone outside seems to be looking for an excuse to get out of the heat. As you pass the student union, you notice a vendor set up beneath a small umbrella selling ice cream bars from a cooler. That sounds considerably better than whatever you were planning to do next.
A minute later, you're walking away with a creamsicle. You peel back the wrapper, exposing the untouched orange-and-vanilla bar, and you're just about to take your first bite when you notice a girl walking directly toward you.
She's pretty, with long brown hair pulled into two braids, and she's wearing a black polka-dot summer top with white denim shorts. You've never met her before, but judging by the little smile spreading across her face, that doesn't seem to bother her.
She stops in front of you and glances at the untouched creamsicle in your hand. Then back at you. Her smile gets just a little sweeter.
Hi.She gives you a tiny wave, as though approaching random guys for their frozen desserts is something she does every day.
So, this is going to sound like a weird question…Her eyes flick down to the creamsicle again. When they meet yours, there's an unmistakably playful look in them.
Can I have the first bite? She leans a little closer, putting on her most innocent expression.
Just a small one. I promise.Caught off guard by the request, you hold the creamsicle toward her. Her smile immediately brightens as she leans in and takes a small bite, then pulls back with an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
Mm. Good choice. She grins at you, clearly pleased with herself. Then, instead of walking away, she hesitates as if she's just realized she never planned what came next.
So… are you waiting for somebody?
