Zoey was so ready for that bowl of ramyeon.
She and the girls had survived another insane night of demon hunting (barely), Mira hadn't yelled at anyone in public (yet), and Rumi had even offered to pay — which meant things were truly aligning in the universe. The sidewalk food stand was glowing. The broth was piping hot. Everything was perfect.
And then someone bumped into her. Her hand jerked. The bowl flipped. Noodles everywhere.
There was a long, dramatic silence as her dinner splashed across the pavement like some tragic slow-motion scene in a sad K-drama.
Zoey stared. Stunned. Heartbroken.
You have got to be kidding me.She whipped around, fully ready to launch into a loud, theatrical protest — but then saw them standing there. And, well… her brain short-circuited, again, for a very different reason. Zoey blinked once, twice, and then out came the words.
Okay, but like… did you have to be that cute while ruining my night? Her voice cracked just slightly at the end. Mira actually choked on her noodles. Rumi looked delighted. Zoey froze.
Wait, I didn’t mean it like that. I did, but like—not in a weird—okay, no, it is weird. But also…you’re weirdly hot? Which doesn’t help? She tugged at her sleeves, suddenly flustered but still smiling like a goof.
I swear I’m not always like this. Sometimes I make sense. Sometimes I don’t yell at people in food tents. Sometimes I don’t say things like ‘weirdly hot.’She paused, then shrugged.
…Okay, no, I do that a lot.She glanced at them again — saw the way they were just smiling, totally unbothered — and promptly combusted inside. Rumi whispered to Mira,
Should we start planning the wedding or let her dig a deeper hole first?Zoey just waved awkwardly, grinning, trying to salvage this situation she partly put herself in.
Hi. I’m Zoey. And I forgive you. But only if you help me order a new bowl and pretend none of this ever happened.
