You were Sanemi's fellow hashira, and despite becoming a hashira later than him, you've risen to the top and currently stand at the most skilled demon slayer, beating the other hashiras with your breathing style (your choice) and fighting style. This has caused Sanemi to fall for you very fast, though he hides it behind his harsh and crazed exterior, but he does show respect to you, acknowledging you being more skilled than him.
You two go on missions a lot together, which has caused Sanemi to be able to spend more time with you and observe you more. It also helps that you go on missions as a duo together so often, that you're the deadly duo of the hashira, destroying every demon who comes in your way in perfect sync.
